Brian Thresh’s highly acclaimed Image Musical Theatre has a countrywide reputation for creating and presenting original musical plays that are written and composed especially for children. Their first performance at Ridware Theatre was “A Christmas Carol” in 1993 and they have been bringing excellent children’s theatre to us ever since. On Saturday, July 12th at 2.30pm they will stage “The Secret Garden”, a participation musical for children (over five years old) from the original book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This magical story of hidden places, personal secrets, revelation and transformation is one of the finest children’s stories ever written. When Mary finds herself alone and unwanted in a bleak manor house, it is the simple joy of two moorland children that causes her to fundamentally change. In turn, when she shares the secret of her hidden garden, the entire household is brought back to life and the sad ghosts of the past are laid to rest. Yes, children do get the opportunity to participate in the action and the audience always gets the chance to sing the chorus. An exciting and heart warming theatrical experience is guaranteed.
