Many of our audience members will be aware of Hugh Whitemore’s extensive portfolio of writing for stage, film and television. This includes “Stevie”, “Breaking The Code”, The Best Of Friends” and “The Gathering Storm” which starred Albert Finney in the role of Winston Churchill. On Saturday, May 24th we will present his very latest play “My Darling Clementine”, which will be performed by his wife Rohan McCullough, who many will remember for her wonderful performances at Ridware Theatre in “Testament Of Youth” and “The Tale Of Beatrix Potter”. ‘Clementine’ is the story of the beautiful and sometimes formidable Celementine Hozier; the wife of Winston Churchill. Having survived a turbulent childhood and coped with endlessly battling parents, she met and married the man often called the Greatest Briton Of All Time. She supported him throughout his political and literary life, throughout the crisis years of two world wars and shared his ambitions, enthusiasms, victories and defeats. Both had fiery temperaments and their marriage, which lasted more than half a century, was often fraught with difficulties. It is nevertheless, one of the greatest love stories of our time
